FOB cassette test is a visual, immunochromatographic rapid test for the qualitative detection of human haemoglobin in stool samples (FOB = faecal occult blood). The test is intended only for professional in-vitro diagnostic use. The test was designed to provide indications of disease in the colonic area such as cancer.
Colon cancer is one of the most commonly diagnosed cancers and a major cause of cancer deaths. Testing for occult blood in stools can lead to the early detection of cancer and thus reduce the mortality rate.
